The Miracle Worker

A Mighty Girl Pick of the Day: "The Miracle Worker" directed by Arthur Penn. This stunning Oscar-winning film tells the true story of the incredible bond between Anne Sullivan and her famous pupil, Helen Keller. After losing her sight and hearing at a young age, Helen was locked in a dark, silent world for years. Her parents hired Anne Sullivan, who has experienced her own trials with disability, in hopes that she will be able to find a way for Helen to connect with the outside world. Although many thought it impossible, thanks to Sullivan’s determination, Helen ended up learning not just how to communicate by sign, but to speak, read, and write. And, Helen eventually became a renowned speaker and author, as well as a tireless advocate for the rights of the disabled.
This film, which is based on the Broadway play and stars the leading actresses from the stage production, Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke, beautifully captures the deep, dedicated relationship between the friends who began as teacher and pupil. Bancroft’s depiction of a no-nonsense Sullivan is letter-perfect, while Duke’s portrayal of the lonely and frightened Keller is captivating. An inspiring story, perfectly told! Highly recommended for ages 8 and up.

That Deaf Guy "Vibrations"

Hello friends,
I am pretty sensitive to vibration...many deaf people are. So I know when something is wrong with my car even when I can't hear it sputtering or clanking down the highway.
Of course, if my radio is blaring some awful music.... well I don't feel the difference between good music vibrations or bad ones. I defer that one to the hearing folks in the car.
-Enjoy, Matt and Kay
